As you may know, I’ve spent much of the year mapping outbreaks of Covid-19 at food and farm facilities across the country. This project began in the spring when there were few resources available to understand the pandemic’s impact on food system workers. Since then, I have spent the bulk of my time on the massive and profound undertaking of collecting, analyzing, and reporting on this data and the many issues they raise.
I’ve updated this dataset every day for more than six months and I’m proud that it’s become the leading source of information on how the pandemic is affecting our nation’s food system workers. The data have laid the foundation for many investigations here at FERN, as well as work by other reporters and even members of Congress.
