How’s organic faring in the farm bill?

In FERN’s latest audio report, reporter Barry Yeoman delves into the fast-growing organic food sector and explores how organic agriculture is faring in the 2018 farm bill. The piece was produced for Nebraska Public Media’s “On the Table” Podcast.

He finds that organic is treated differently in the the House and Senate bills, with implications for the future of the sector. Among the flashpoints: whether organic research — which is needed to help meet demand but has been lagging — will receive adequate funding; whether organic standards will remain intact; and whether the federal government will be able to stop fraudulent organic products from entering the U.S. market.
