Independent Greg Orman leads third-term Republican Sen Pat Roberts, 41-34, in Kansas according to a survey by Public Policy Polling that was released to Pollster. The poll said 15 percent were undecided, 6 percent supported Democrat Chad Taylor, who has dropped out of the race, and 4 percent backed libertarian Randall Batson. PPP said Roberts was deeply unpopular; Democrats and independents overwhelmingly back Orman. The margin of error was +/-2.7 points.

It says Thad Cochran of Mississippi, now the GOP leader on Agriculture, would take the Appropriations chair and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, No 2 in rank on Agriculture, would become majority leader. “Right to farm” recount is under way in Missouri
County election officials began the recount of votes on the "right to farm" constitutional amendment in Missouri on Thursday with results due at the Secretary of State's office by Sept 11. The amendment passed by 2,490 votes out of 996,672 cast during the Aug 5 primary election. The recount was requested by opponents of the amendment. Secretary of State Jason Kander's office said a running tally would be posted daily on the Internet.

Pat Roberts, a senior Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee, won his third term with 60 percent of the vote but faces a more rugged political landscape this time. Sabato's Crystal Ball rates the race as "likely Republican," down a peg from the previous "safe Republican." Says the Crystal Ball, "Roberts is not exactly as safe as one might think." Noteworthy - Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
