Poultry to account for half of world increase in meat consumption
Global meat consumption will grow by 12 percent in the coming decade, with lower-cost poultry accounting for half of the increase, said the OECD and FAO on Thursday. Their jointly produced Agricultural Outlook report also said that aquaculture would overtake "capture fisheries" as the leading source of fish worldwide by 2024.
World farm subsidies hit $2 billion a day
The 54 leading countries of the world spend roughly $700 billion a year on farm subsidies, equal to 12 percent of gross farm revenues, said the OECD on Tuesday. The average rate of producer support in OECD countries – the industrialized world – is more than double the rate in emerging and developing nations, mostly in Asia, Africa and South America, despite some "convergence" in the past two decades. World lacks drive to reform agricultural supports
More than $500 billion is spent annually around the world on "often ineffective and trade-distorting support to farmers," says the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In an annual report, the OECD said, "little progress has been seen this decade in reforming agricultural support policies."
Obesity: A big issue in industrialized nations and getting bigger
One in five adults in the industrialized world is obese and nearly one in six children is overweight or obese, says a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The report also projects “a steady increase in obesity rates until at least 2030.”
Report: World won’t meet goal of ending hunger by 2030

Farm subsidy convergence among rich and developing world
In the four dozen major agricultural countries of the world, government support accounted for 18 percent of gross farm receipts, or an average $736 billion from 2012-14, says the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Brazil is poised to expand ag exports, says global report
Brazil, second to the United States in food and agricultural exports, "is poised to become the foremost supplier in meeting additional global demand, mostly originating from Asia," says the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2015-2024.
