El Niño winter: The United States will see its first winter in four years under the influence of an El Niño weather pattern, which is expected to bring above-normal temperatures to the northern tier of the 48 contiguous states and a wetter than usual winter in the wheat-growing southern Plains, the Southeast, and much of California.
