Just another candy bar (AP): Judges in the European Union ruled that the shape of the KitKat bar is not distinctive enough to be trademarked.

‘Adequate food’ after Brexit (Independent): Dominic Raab, the new Brexit secretary, promised there would be “an adequate food supply” in the event that Britain leaves the European Union before working out a trade deal. The UK relies on the EU for a sizable portion of its food.

King of monarchs dies (New York Times): Biology professor Lincoln Brower, who spent decades studying and urging protection of the monarch butterfly, has died at the age of 86.

Surfing in Nebraska (Nebraska Rural Poll): In two years, the portion of Nebraskans who access the internet via smartphone rose by 7 percentage points, to 77 percent, while subscriptions to broadband service at home held steady at 84 percent. At least 1 in 10 rural Nebraskans reported significant problems with in-home internet service.

Goldfish recall (FDA): Fears of possible salmonella contamination have caused Mondelez International, Pepperidge Farm, and Flowers Foods to voluntarily recall some foods. Products affected include some types of Goldfish crackers and Ritz Bitz.

New owner for Roll Call (Roll Call): FiscalNote, which uses technology to track legislation worldwide, is buying CQ Roll Call from The Economist Group. CQ reports on and analyzes legislation in Congress; Roll Call is the oldest Capitol Hill newspaper.
