Vilsack remains contender as Clinton nears VP choice

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton is likely to campaign with her choice for vice president in Florida on Saturday, said the New York Times, listing Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack among the four men still under consideration for the job. Former president Bill Clinton “has privately expressed his support for Sen. Tim Kaine,” said the newspaper.

The presumptive Democratic nominee for president could announce her choice in advance of the Florida rally. As chairman of the White House Rural Council, Vilsack is scheduled to attend sessions on opioid drug abuse in St. Louis today and in Columbia, Mo., on Friday.

Vilsack is a former governor of Iowa and Kaine was governor of Virginia before election to the Senate. Both states are swing states; Virginia has more electoral votes. Along with Kaine and Vilsack, Labor Secretary Tom Perez and retired admiral James G. Stravidis remain contenders, said the Times.
