Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in an op-ed appearing today in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the second time the former Iowa governor backed her for the Democratic nomination. Vilsack ran briefly for the nomination himself in 2007 before dropping out and endorsing Clinton, then a U.S. senator, and serving as a national co-chairman of her campaign, said the Gazette. The Hagstrom Report said Vilsack was to campaign with Clinton today.
“Vilsack, the first member of President Barack Obama’s Cabinet to endorse Clinton, has been mentioned as a possible running mate. Matt Paul, a top adviser to Vilsack, left in March to run her Iowa campaign,” said Politico.
Iowa’s precinct caucuses, set for Feb. 1, are the first step in choosing the Democratic presidential nominee.
