Utah could soon become the first state to make it illegal to harass livestock with drones. Passed unanimously by the House, HB217 would make it a class B misdemeanor to harangue livestock with drones, ATVs or dogs, says The Deseret News.
“If the animal is seriously injured or killed and the person has committed the offense before, the crime would be bumped up to a class A misdemeanor, which carries a potential one-year stay in jail and a $2,500 fine,” says the newspaper.
The bill was sponsored by Republican lawmaker Scott Chew, a rancher, who said he was tired of ATV riders bothering his cattle. The bill now moves on to the state Senate.
