The Agriculture Department said it will release the full results of the Census of Agriculture on May 2, after more than a year of work. The report will cover topics from agricultural practices, conservation and organic production to traditional and specialty crops.”The 2012 Census final report will also give first-time or expanded data on biomass production, equine, Internet access, regional food marketing and distribution, land use practices and agroforestry,” said USDA.
A preliminary version was released at the end of February. It listed 2.11 mln farms, down 4 pct from 2007 while the average size of a farm rose to 434 acres, up 4 pct. It said U.S. farmers tended to be white (92 pct), male (86 pct) and in farming for more than 10 years (78 pct). Three-fourths of U.S. farms had less than $50,000 a year in sales; the bulk of women and minority group members were in that sales group.
