USDA offers $280 million for renewable energy projects

The USDA announced $280 million is available in loans and grants through its Renewable Energy Assistance Program (REAP) for farmers and rural business owners to buy and install renewable energy systems, or to improve the energy efficiency of their operations. The grants cover up to 25 percent of the cost of a project, and loan guarantees cover up to 75 percent. Applications will be accepted year-round, said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack during a tele-conference. He described REAP as “a job creator and a job supporter.”
