The USDA said it has decided to approve cultivation of cotton that has been genetically engineered by Dow AgroScience to tolerate the weedkiller 2,4-D as well as glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide in the world, said Agri-Pulse. With the announcement, the department has completed its review of all of Dow’s so-called Enlist crops – corn, soybeans and cotton. The EPA has yet to register Enlist Duo, Dow’s blend of 2,4-D and glyphosate, for cotton. The agency already has cleared Enlist Duo for corn and soybeans. “Dow expects to launch Enlist cotton in 2016,” assuming it gets EPA approval of the companion herbicide, said Agri-Pulse.
