UN creates on-line database on how to reduce food loss

Three UN agencies joined to launch a database on the Internet of proven methods to reduce food loss and waste, which now claim one-third of food production each year. The Global Community of Practice on Food Loss Reduction “aims to become a global reference point that facilitates the sharing of information and linkages between stakeholders including public entities, civil society and the private sector,” said the Food and Agriculture Organization, one of the founding agencies. The annual food losses are estimated at 1.2 billion tonnes, or enough to feed 2 billion people.
