U.S. to donate masks to food banks and pantries

The government will distribute more than 25 million washable face masks through community health centers and the food bank network over the next three months, announced the White House on Wednesday. The nation’s roughly 300 food banks “reach a vast network of 60,000 food pantries, soup kitchens & other food distribution points where masks will be distributed to individuals & families,” said the USDA on social media.

“As a result of these actions, an estimated 12 to 15 million Americans will receive masks,” said the White House. “Recipients will be encouraged to take an individually wrapped package of two masks for each person in their household.”

About 1,300 community health centers will be part of the effort.
