President Trump intends to nominate Dawn Stump, a former vice president of NYSE Euronext, as a commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the regulator of futures markets, announced the White House. Trump also selected Jeffrey Gerrish to be a deputy U.S. trade representative.
Stump is the second person chosen by Trump to be a CFTC commissioner. A month ago, the president nominated Brian Quintenz for commissioner. He was originally nominated by President Obama and approved by the Senate Agriculture Committee, but had not received a floor vote. The president also nominated Christopher Giancarlo for CFTC chairman. He has been serving as acting chairman since Trump took office.
Stump, a former congressional staff worker, opened a consulting company in 2016. Before that, she was executive director of the Americas Advisory Board for the Futures Industry Association and a vice president at NYSE Euronext. As a Senate Agriculture Committee staffer, she took part in negotiations over the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.
As a deputy trade representative, Gerrish would be in charge of Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and industrial competitiveness, said the White House. Gerrish, a partner at the Washington law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, “has extensive experience litigating trade disputes” before U.S. and international tribunals, said the White House.
