Corn yields in Ohio and South Dakota are likely to be far above last year’s levels, say scouts on the Pro Farmer crop tour. Their reports indicate a yield of 182.1 bushels an acre in Ohio and 152.7 bushels an acre in South Dakota. By comparison, yields along the same route last year were 146.1 bushels in Ohio and 125.7 bushels in South Dakota. DTN quoted scouts as saying wet weather during the planting season reduced potential yields.
The weekly Crop Progress report said 71 percent of soybeans and 72 percent of corn were in good or excellent condition, 9 points higher than a year ago and far better than usual for mid-August. Soybeans were in slightly better condition than traders expected and corn was 1 point below expectations. Corn condition was down by 1 point from a week ago following several days of dry weather in the Corn Belt.
