Longer and hotter droughts in Plains (NOAA): Climate change will make drought, a common occurence in the southern Plains and the U.S. Southwest, significantly hotter and longer, as much as 9.9 degrees F warmer than a similar drought in 1850, says a NOAA study in a scientific journal.

‘What’s meat?’ goes to trial (Drovers): A lawsuit challenging Missouri’s new law limiting the use of the word “meat” on food products is going to trial after months of negotiations for a settlement ended without an agreement.

Job growth goes to town (Daily Yonder): Less than 6 percent of the 1.5 million US jobs created from May 2018 to May 2019 were in rural counties; metropolitan areas with more than 1 million residents landed six of every 10 of the new jobs, according to Labor Department data.

Low Farm Belt returns in 2020 (farmdoc daily): Projected crop returns on Farm Belt grain farms are projected to be much lower this year than they were in 2018 and they will remain low in 2020 due to low corn and soybean prices and the absence of Trump tariff payments.
