A third vaccine against Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, which has killed 8 million piglets since mid-2013, is on the horizon, says the New York Times. It says MJ Biologics of Mankato, Minn, hopes to get USDA approval for its vaccine soon. The disease was at its worst during the cold months of last winter. The other vaccine makers are Zoetis and Harrisvaccines. The Times quotes a swine veterinarian told the Times that sows are starting to develop some natural resistance to PEDv, which will complicate assessment of the efficacy of the treatments. Progress also has been made in other areas, such as sanitation, he said.
