‘Food & Power’ site launched, on concentration in food system

The Washington think tank, New America, has launched Food & Power, a resource for original investigative reporting and research on economic concentration in food and agriculture. The site will focus “on the ways economic concentration affects farmers, farm and food workers, eaters, and animals, as well as public health and the environment,” says the group.

The Food & Power team has already written extensively on food issues, covering Big Soda in the Washington Monthly, Nebraska’s corporate farming laws in Fortune and the impact of the Heinz/Kraft Merger for Time.com. The project will be edited by Leah Douglas, reporter and policy associate with New America’s Open Markets program. Regular writers will include Lina Khan, fellow with Open Markets; Christopher Leonard, author of The Meat Racket and Schmidt Family Fellow at New America; and Barry C. Lynn, director of Open Markets; with contributions from other reporters and researchers focused on the consolidation of power in the food system.
