Deere and the United Auto Workers agreed over the weekend on a proposed six-year contract covering 10,000 union workers at the world’s largest farm equipment manufacturer. The UAW said its members would remain on strike during consideration of the agreement.
Members rejected the initial proposal by Deere and the UAW, and went on strike on Oct. 14. In a statement, UAW vice president Chuck Browning said the new proposal offered better pay and maintained the highest-quality healthcare benefits in the industry. “The negotiators focused on improving the areas of concern identified by our members during our last ratification process,” he said.
Union members will vote Tuesday on the proposal, said KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
