Some of the Boulder businesses listed as opponents to the proposed 2-cent tax on sugary beverages say they were wrongly included in an anti-tax advertisement, says the Boulder Daily Camera. The ad by the “No on 2H” campaign, supported by the American Beverage Association, named 32 restaurants as opposing the tax.
“Some business owners are now asking to be disconnected from the movement,” said the newspaper. The owners said they didn’t realize they were consenting to be part of campaign material and that some of the “No on 2H” solicitors were not clear in what they were doing. In some cases, an employee, but not the owner, signed a consent form.
“No on 2H” says the consent form was clear that the businesses’ names could be used in advertising and it has been “above and beyond” reproach in its operations. Boulder is one of four cities that will vote on a soda tax on Nov 8.
