Snyder is named EPA ag adviser

Ron Snyder, with a background in traditional and sustainable agriculture, will serve as the EPA’s agriculture adviser, announced administrator Michael Regan on Thursday. Snyder said he would pursue “practical, science-based solutions that protect the environment and ensure a vibrant and productive agricultural system.”

Before joining the EPA, Snyder was president of Field to Market, an alliance that promotes sustainability on commodity crop farms. He has also worked for the National Corn Growers Association and CropLife America, a pesticide trade group. In 2015, he was a co-founder of the Sustainable Agriculture Summit, now the largest annual sustainable agriculture conference in North America.

Farm groups applauded the appointment. Jen Sorenson, president of the National Pork Producers Council, said Snyder was a familiar figure, and she commended “his decades-long dedication to protecting the environment and the livelihoods of America’s farmers.”
