The renamed Citizens Bank of Weir, located in a town of 700 people in southeastern Kansas, could be the bank of the future, says the New York Times. Now called CBW, the bank, purchased by Silicon Valley transplants, offers instant payments to any bank in the United States, speedy remittance transfers overseas and specialized debit cards. The bank is hours or even days faster than other financial institutions in shifting money among accounts and offers lower fees for doing it, says the Times. One of its big ideas is software to quickly judge the risk behind any transaction it is asked to perform, so as to avoid fraud. The bank is looking at “contextual” debit and credit cards, which could be used only in particular places or at specific times.
