Series on food stamps wins Pulitzer Prize

Eli Saslow’s “unsettling and nuanced reporting on the prevalence of food stamps in post-recession America, forcing readers to grapple with issues of poverty and dependency,” won the Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting.

The Washington Post submitted six stories in the contest. They ranged from a recounting of a bus that dispenses summertime meals to school children in Tennessee to the efforts of Rep Steve Southerland to tighten eligibility rules for food stamps and end benefits to 4 mln people as part of the farm bill.
