The president of the National Parent Teacher Association, Otha Thornton, is among witnesses scheduled for a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on child nutrition programs today at 10 a.m. ET. The hearing overlaps with House debate of the fiscal 2015 funding bill for the Agriculture Department. The House bill would create a waiver for some schools from requirements to serve healthier meals. Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow announced a June 17 hearing “Grow It Here, Make It Here: Creating Jobs through Bio-Based Manufacturing,” with witnesses from Coca-Cola, Cargill and three other businesses. “The hearing will examine the role that bio-based products are playing in helping to revitalize and re-energize American manufacturing, and how that is helping to grow the economy and create jobs,” said the announcement.
