Three nominees for CFTC commissioner, including Timothy Massad for chairman, were approved by the Senate Agriculture Committee on Tuesday. They require Senate confirmation. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia was the only committee member to oppose any of the nominees, voting against Sharon Bowen, said the New York Times. Sen David Vitter placed a hold on Bowen’s nomination, which would delay a floor vote.
Stabenow told reporters her committee will conduct hearings on reauthorization of the CFTC in coming weeks. Like the House Agriculture Committee, she said the Senate panel will look at treatment of end users and better protection of customer funds. “It will be a little while down the road but we will be putting out our own mark. I’m hoping we can do CFTC reform this year,” said Stabenow.
