Wisconsin Democrat Tammy Baldwin will chair the Senate Appropriations subcommittee in charge of USDA and FDA spending for the next two years, announced the committee leaders. North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven, the former chairman, will be the senior Republican on the subcommittee now that Democrats control the Senate.
“Our farmers work hard and we should work just as hard in Washington to support them,” said Baldwin in a statement. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support farmers, ranchers, and producers, build a stronger and more secure agriculture economy, and get the job done on rural economic development for communities that too often feel they are being left behind by Washington.”
Georgia Rep. Sanford Bishop was reappointed last month as chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee on agriculture. Nebraska Rep. Jeff Fortenberry returned as the senior Republican on the subcommittee.
