Scientists say a fungus that has devastated salamanders in Europe could easily spread to the United States, said the New York Times, quoting researchers who called for stricter biosecurity rules. The Times quoted Vance Vredenburg of San Francisco State University as saying, ““We need to think about biosecurity not just in terms of humans and food that we eat and crops that we grow.” The story said bills pending in Congress would allow the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to screen imported animals for infections.
