Pruitt blasts Paris climate treaty as a ‘bad deal’

The Paris climate treaty is a “bad deal” for the U.S. said Scott Pruitt, while adding that the country should stay “engaged” in international climate discussions.

Pruitt said China and India signed the agreement without being required to reduce emissions. Under the agreement, each country submitted a national strategy to meet emission-reduction goals, reports Reuters. But Pruitt didn’t say outright whether the new administration would walk out on the agreement. White House spokesman Sean Spicer told the press last week that a decision would be finalized prior to the G7 summit in June.

“Asked on Sunday to clarify a statement he made last month that carbon dioxide — emitted from fossil fuel power plants — is not a primary contributor to climate change, Pruitt said, ‘Human activities contribute to that change in some measure,’” says Reuters.
