Prospects nil for TPP deal at early November meeting

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said “we do not expect to have a final agreement” on the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact during a meeting of U.S. and Asian leaders in early November, said Kyodo news agency. Ministers from the TPP countries plan to meet on Nov 8 on the sidelines of the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Beijing. Kyodo quoted Froman as saying the APEC meeting, on Nov 10 and 11, would allow leaders to ““have conversations with each other about the TPP, about whatever outstanding issues are left and to give more political impetus to getting it done.” TPP negotiations, running a year longer than planned, bogged down in a U.S.-Japan dispute over agriculture and automobiles.
