Prolific wheat breeder is named AAAS Fellow

Ravi Singh, a world expert in wheat, has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in recognition of his work on wheat genetics, pathology and breeding, says the international research center where he works. The awards will be announced formally in the journal Science at the end of this week.

It was the second award in three months for Singh. In September, he was among 50 recipients of China’s Friendship Award, its highest award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country’s economic and social progress. Singh’s expertise on wheat breeding and disease resistance as well as mentoring Chinese scientists helped China become the world’s largest wheat producer while reducing the land sown to wheat by 20 percent.
