USDA holds annual Agricultural Outlook Forum online, through Friday. USDA chief economist Seth Meyer will speak on the outlook for the farm sector at 8:10 a.m. ET. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Elizabeth Economy, China trade expert at the Commerce Department, will follow at 8:45 a.m. ET with a “fireside chat” on Sino-U.S. ag trade and its future. As part of the forum, the USDA said it will update its projections of commodity production on Thursday at 7 a.m. ET to reflect current conditions. It issued projections last fall, based on production and market conditions in October. Those projections included record crops of 15.24 billion bushels of corn and 4.47 billion bushels of soybeans. The USDA also will release its quarterly forecast of U.S. farm exports, now estimated at a record $175.5 billion for fiscal year 2022, in conjunction with the forum.

They will be preceded by a “morning get-together with USDA undersecretaries” at 8 a.m. ET. The rest of the day will be occupied by breakout sessions on food and ag topics.

USDA releases monthly Food Price Outlook, 9 a.m. ET. At present, food prices are forecast to rise by 2.5 percent this year, in line with the long-term average of 2.4 percent annually, compared to 3.9 percent in 2021.
