The Affordable Care Act gives farmers more options for health insurance than they had in the past, says Harvest Public Media. Farmers and ranchers traditionally are among the least likely to have insurance, partly because they usually buy individual policies and partly because they tend to be older and work in a more dangerous profession than many Americans. An analyst at the Center for Rural Affairs tells Harvest Public Media that it’s hard to make generalizations about how the law is working for farmers and ranchers, but it is clear that it gives them more choices. The HPM story cites farmers for and against the law, and an insurance agent in Kansas who says farmers don’t like being told what to do. Obamacare requires people to buy insurance or pay a penalty.
