Kansas Republican Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on agriculture, has $1.4 million in cash in his campaign fund, said Roll Call. It said Moran raised $484,000 in the final three months of 2014. Moran’s term ends next year. “(S)ources say he intends to seek re-election,” said Roll Call. Rep Tim Huelskamp considered the race but will not enter it, said the Capitol Hill newspaper. Moran chaired the Senate Republican campaign committee during 2014. Kansas is a strongly Republican state.
Minnesota Rep Collin Peterson, Democratic leader on the House Agriculture Committee, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he’s “fired up” and “running at this point” for election to his 14th term. Peterson said he has two fundraisers scheduled. Republicans targeted Peterson for defeat last year and argued the district is trending Republican. “They had the opposite effect of what they though they were going to do,” Peterson told the Star Tribune.
