Monsanto, growers settle suit over rogue GMO wheat

Monsanto, the giant seed company, settled lawsuits field by wheat growers in seven states over the 2013 discovery of a GMO variety growing in the wild in eastern Oregon. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Monsanto will donate $50,000 apiece to agriculture schools at land-grant universities in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi. The discovery of the unapproved GMO wheat briefly disrupted U.S. exports and drove down market prices because of questions of possible contamination of the wheat supply. After a lengthy investigation, the USDA said it was an isolated case and U.S. wheat did not include GMO grain.
