Minnesota clears the way for some industrial hemp

Minnesota legislators have approved cultivation of industrial hemp in the Gopher State, says the Associated Press, but given a go-slow approach by state regulators and the limited growing season, “authorized hemp planting probably won’t commence until next year anyway.” At least 20 states have legalized industrial hemp, often restricting it to research activities. “Commercial production would depend on changes to federal policy,” says the AP. The state Agriculture Department “has signaled it won’t rush to register growers beyond a pilot project for now.”
