Australian researchers have attached tiny microsensors to about 10,000 healthy honeybees to try to learn the cause of the global decline in bee populations, says the Christian Science Monitor. “The experiment, supported by an international group of scientists, farmers, beekeepers, and tech companies, is the latest to use tracking and tagging technology to study animal behavior and responses to stimuli.” The sensors weigh about one-third of a bee’s carrying capacity. The researchers say the senors will gather environmental information from where the bees travel outside the hive. Honeybees are vital for plant pollination.
