A decision by Mexico to allow the import of poultry meat from states affected by avian influenza “signals the disease’s threat to U.S. poultry exports is starting to subside,” according to a report from Bloomberg. It says Mexico will accept shipment of some poultry products, but not whole chicken, if they are destined for further processing. A New York-based analyst told Bloomberg that other nations are likely to follow suit over time. More than a dozen countries, including China and the European Union, curtailed imports following the discovery of bird flu in several states. According to the Centers for Disease Control, this is the largest outbreak of bird flu since record-keeping began in 1997.
