U.S. wheat growers will reap a crop of 1.57 billion bushels, up 14 percent from this year, according to forecaster Lanworth, says Reuters. The increase would be driven by higher yields as the central and southern Plains rebound for devastating drought. Lanworth estimated winter wheat plantings at 40.79 million acres, down 4 percent. Winter wheat accounts for the lion’s share of U.S. wheat production. Consultancy Informa estimates overall U.S. wheat sowings of roughly 56.8 million acres, on par with this year. Informa also projects larger soybean plantings will rise by 4 million acres with offsetting declines in corn and cotton.
