Kelly joins House Ag Committee as Emmer exits

The newest member of the U.S. House, Republican Trent Kelly of Mississippi, was appointed to the House Agriculture Committee, said chairman Michael Conaway. Kelly replaces first-term Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota on the committee and will take over Emmer’s seats on the subcommittees on livestock and on commodity exchanges. Kelly, 49, a district attorney, won a special election in northeastern Mississippi on June 2 to complete the term of Rep. Alan Nunnelee, who died on Feb. 6.

In an Agriculture Committee release, Kelly said, “Agriculture is vital to the economy in the State of Mississippi, and I am proud to have the opportunity to represent the First District on the House Committee on Agriculture.”
