Canadian farmers are planting more wheat, corn, barley and oats than last year while cutting back on soybeans and canola, said Statistics Canada, based on a survey of 24,500 farmers from May 28-June 11. Canada is one of the world’s major wheat exporters and wheat is the most widely planted crop in the country, followed by canola. Growers planted 24.1 million acres of wheat, up 1 percent from last year, and 19.8 million acres of canola, down 2.4 percent. Barley was third-largest in sowings, at 6.5 million acres, up 11 percent.
