How does Cosmic Crisp sound for an apple’s name?

Cosmic Crisp is a new variety of apple developed by Washington State University and should appear in orchards in 2017, says the Associated Press. A cross of Enterprise and Honeycrisp, the new variety, say its breeders, is juicy, firm, resistant to sunburn and slow to brown after being cut. Cosmic Crisp was the 38th variety developed by WSU, the third to reach commercial release and the first to receive a “real name,” a WSU official told AP. The university held a lottery to pick 24 growers who will receive 300,000 trees in 2017. About 100 varieties of apples are grown in the nation.
