General Mills says it will use only cage-free eggs in its U.S. operations by 2025, the first time the maker of packaged foods has set a timeline for the switch, said Reuters. Known for its Cheerios breakfast cereal and Betty Crocker cake mixes, General Mills said during the summer that it was working toward cage-free status but did not say how long it would take. “The move comes at a time when the food industry is under pressure from groups including the Humane Society of the United States, Mercy for Animals and World Animal Protection,” said Reuters. Kellogg said last month that it would use only cage-free eggs by 2025.
