General Mills sets long-term goal of cage-free eggs

Foodmaker General Mills announced it will stop buying eggs that come from caged hens, says CNN. The company did not say when it would make the switch. A company official said the change is a “long-term goal.” CNN said, “As one of the country’s largest food makers, General Mills joins other big brands that have made similar pledges. Those companies include Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, Kellogg, Nestle and Walmart.” General Mills said it would work directly with suppliers to ensure that eggs are true to the cage-free claim. The Humane Society of the United States said it welcomed the decision.
