G20 countries disturbed by U.S. stance on climate change

The U.S. stood alone at the G20 meeting in Hamburg, Germany, as all the other countries, including China and the European Union, called on the Trump administration to address climate change.

The world’s leading economies expressed their regret at the U.S. decision to pull out of the Paris climate treaty, calling the choice “irreversible” in a final communiqué from the summit.

For its part, the U.S. “injected a contentious line (into the document) saying that it would ‘endeavor to work closely with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently,’” says Reuters.

“In the end, the negotiations on climate reflect dissent — all against the United States of America,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters.
