Rajiv Shah, who headed the U.S. Agency for International Development for five years, will become a senior adviser to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on July 1. In an announcement, the think tank said Shah would “advance and support” its work “in global agriculture, global cities and the global economy by focusing on critical issues in each of these areas as well as the nexus between agriculture, urbanization and trade.” At USAID, Shah instituted the Feed the Future program, which combines private- and public-sector funding to improve local food production and free-market reforms in targeted countries. Shah was chief scientist and an agriculture undersecretary before joining USAID. Prior to his time at the USDA, Shah worked on global health, agriculture and financial services at the Gates Foundation.
