Farm operator Steve Fincher, who served three terms in the House, including time on the Agriculture Committee, said he is probably going to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Bob Corker, said the Memphis Daily News. The newspaper quoted Fincher as saying, “We’re very close to getting in. We’re not 100 percent. But we’re very close.”
Following a meeting with Shelby County officials, Fincher said voters “want Republicans who are going to stand up with President Trump, who is right on all of the policy. We need Republicasn to get in line and let’s do something.” Fincher said people want lower taxes, better jobs, better education and better health care.
Although he was not a candidate, Fincher contrasted himself with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who already is in the Senate race, describing her as a career politician. Now in her eighth term, Blackburn has the endorsement of the anti-tax Club for Growth, a pro-Trump group Great America Alliance and Citizens United, said the Nashville Post.
