The administration’s Operation Fly Formula will deliver 680,000 pounds of infant formula from makers in Great Britain and Australia beginning on June 9, said the White House on Wednesday. The deliveries would be the equivalent of 8.3 million 8-ounce bottles of formula.
The 300,000 pounds of Kendamil formula from Britain will be distributed nationwide and available for purchase at stores and online, said the White House. With FDA approval, Kendal Nutricare has announced it will export up to 2 million cans of formula.
Bubs Australia was to ship 380,000 pounds of formula to Pennsylvania and California on June 9 and 11. Additional flights from Australia will be announced in coming days, said the White House.
Operation Fly Formula was created two weeks ago to speed shipments of infant formula into the United States and alleviate shortages created by the shutdown of a large U.S. formula factory. The first shipment arrived on May 22. The second flight followed a few days later.
