Farming and ranching have one of the largest pay gaps between men and women, says the Chicago Tribune, based on data from the Census Bureau. While the national average gap is 21 cents on $1, for “farmers, ranchers and other agricultural managers” it is 39 cents; in other words, women on average make 61 cents for each $1 that men make. The Census Bureau says 89 percent of farmers and ranchers are men and 11 percent are women.
Among professions where the wage gap is largest are financial services sales, economist, cement masons and oilfield roustabouts, said the Tribune. “If you’re a woman who works as a special education teacher, a transportation security screener, a producer or director, chances are good that you earn close to, if not more than, your male counterparts.”
