First-term Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, an Agriculture Committee member, says she wants to focus on her home state rather than running for vice president with Republican businessman Donald Trump, reports Politico. Ernst won a crucial swing-state race in 2014, marking her as a rising political star.
Ernst met Trump early this week. Politico quoted her as saying, “I made that very clear to him that I’m focused on Iowa. I feel that I have a lot more to do in the United States Senate. And Iowa is where my heart is … And I think that President Trump will need some great assistance in the United States Senate and I can provide that.”
